Central Ballard Brewery Tour

Overview
TOUR INCLUDES URBAN FAMILY BREWING, STOUP BREWING, AND OBEC BREWING.

In the center of Ballard's Brewing District, these three breweries stand out. At each guided tasting we will learn about the different beer styles, what to look for when you are tasting beer, the history of beer, and the craft brewing renaissance in the Pacific Northwest. For example, we'll learn how an obscure export ale for British soldiers was reborn in the Pacific Northwest to become the most popular craft beer style in North America or how a small Czech town gave its name to one of the world's most popular beer styles.

At each brewery our Cicerone certified Beer Guide will lead a guided tasting of four, 4-once beers, for a total of 12 different beers. This is about 3 pints of beer.
* 3/4 of a mile, 1,500 steps
* Each guide a certified cicerone
* 12 different 4 oz beers
* Free 4-oz souvenir tasting glass
* Free souvenir Bottle Key-Chain opener

What To Expect
1
Urban Family Brewing Company
Our tour begins at Urban Family Brewing. Just settling into their brand new brewhouse, Urban Family has been a feature of the North Seattle Brewing scene for years. Originally inspired by the Belgian and French Farmhouse brewing traditions they now feature huge selection of in-house brewed sour ales and IPAs making this one of the more unique breweries in the neighborhood. Old world traditions and innovative northwest styles served side by side.
2
Stoup Brewing
Stoup has that crazy, mixed-up Seattle, hipster, family vibe. The beer garden features a fire pit for those cool evenings and there is always something new and exciting on tap. Besides traditional styles and IPAs, you may find experimental beers and old world beers you typically find only in Europe
3
Obec Brewing
Our final stop is Ballard's newest micro-brewery. Obec is a Czech word (pronounced "O-Betz") meaning "community" and their ideal is to build community around beer. You will feel right at home with their traditional styles and cozy taproom. It is all about building community around Obec, and making the world a better place through beer. We will also get a look at the brewing process.

The guide was highly knowledgeable & shared some fascinating stories, and the tour was very interactive. Learned some new great info. A wide variety of beers were sampled and we learned all about them, history of beer, and the Ballard/Seattle area as we sipped.

My husband and I had a great time with Tim on the Central Ballard brewery tour on the 4th of July. We learned SO much about beer and experienced an incredibly wide variety of tasting. Tim keeps his tours small so you can expect a lot of attention and Q&A opportunities. Most of the breweries don't have food so maybe bring some like snacks (nuts or pretzels) or have a solid meal before you go. It is a pretty good amount of beer and the "tastings" are pretty hardy. I would definitely recommend any of the tours to beers lovers, or even just beer likers, as everyone is bound to find a beer that suits their tastes :) I look forward to taking another tour with Tim on our next visit to Seattle.
