What To Expect

Central Park Zoo

The zoo is open every day of the year and features three major biomes: the Tropic Zone, Temperate Territory, and the Polar Circle. From tropical birds, to snow leopards, grizzly bears, and one of the nation’s largest colonies of Antarctic penguins, there are animals to enjoy in every season. We also feature the Tisch Children’s Zoo, a playful adventure for our youngest guests who’ll encounter goats, sheep, some of the world’s most unique ducks, and the only cow who calls Manhattan home. Our goal is to inspire our visitors and connect them to the plight of animals in the wild and the conservation work we’re doing to protect them.

Horrible. I have visited many zoos of all sizes in my life and can’t believe how bad this was. I am not speaking out against zoos as I do believe they serve a valuable role in learning about and caring for animals. The Central Park zoo is a disgrace though, The bears are in a tiny cage baking in the heat with virtually no room for exercise or activity. The penguins are incredibly over packed in an entirely indoor facility that is dirty and crowded with not so much as a window to the outside world. The two seals swim in a small pool with again no space for activity, There are very few animals here and I can’t believe they charge for admission to this and then don’t even put that money back to care for the animals. It is clear that most of the money earned is spent on the gift shop and entry way into the zoo. Don’t support this place.

We had an amazing time here. My son is 5yo and we spent about 2 hours here then had lunch on site and took a short walk to central park after. It's the perfect location and perfect amount of time to spend before going to central park. I would highly recommend going if you have small children. It's a small zoo but it was perfect for us. Your ticket includes the short cute kids movie, the petting zoo are and the main zoo. Definitely will visit again.

Great little zoo in Central Park, plenty of animals , reptiles and birds to see, Really average price to go in not over the top…. Definitely if you have small children, ours are 18 and 19 and they loved it…..
