What To Expect

Central Park Zoo

The zoo is open every day of the year and features three major biomes: the Tropic Zone, Temperate Territory, and the Polar Circle. From tropical birds, to snow leopards, grizzly bears, and one of the nation’s largest colonies of Antarctic penguins, there are animals to enjoy in every season. We also feature the Tisch Children’s Zoo, a playful adventure for our youngest guests who’ll encounter goats, sheep, some of the world’s most unique ducks, and the only cow who calls Manhattan home. Our goal is to inspire our visitors and connect them to the plight of animals in the wild and the conservation work we’re doing to protect them.

The snow leapard and bears looked very relaxed and happy. I was concerned about the penguin enclosure as they are not in the open air, and there seemed to be a lot in there for a small space.

I found this experience to be disappointing. The zoo is very small, you can get round so quickly. There isn’t that much to see. The children’s zoo, the main zoo and 4D cinema are in different sections and you’re not allowed to move between them, once you leave the main zoo to go to the cinema or kids zoo you cannot re-enter, which I found bizarre. The 4D cinema was enjoyable, we had a lovely film about a squirrel and bear, my little one enjoyed it (5-years)

After years of getting zoo memberships and only using them at the Bronx Zoo, this was a great day spent in the middle of Manhattan. While not as large as the Bronx zoo, there is plenty to see and do. Kids had a blast and well be back!
