I was born in downtown Charleston at Roper Hospital. I was raised in Awendaw. My dad was military so we moved around. I happened to meet the love of my life while I was living in Georgia. He was stationed in Charleston. So, I moved back. I've been on multiple "ghost tours" in Charleston. Most are simply a small caption of Charleston's rich history. Unfortunately- some tour guides have no respect for our history and graveyards. Honestly- much is inaccurate. Tonight our tour guide, Gordon, disrespectfully walked on top of multiple gravesites. Of course multiple people followed. These tours are for nothing more than money. It's an unfortunate, sad and disrespectful depiction of those buried within these exploited graveyards.

amandasD7948NF, We are sorry to read and hear how you feel concerning our company and intentions towards the city of Charleston. Your guide, Gordon, is a remarkable guide who gets nothing but fantastic reviews. Anyone is welcome to search his name on TripAdvisor to see. Your comments about his disrespect upon walking on graves in the graveyard shows little knowledge and understanding of our history. This is something that is addressed on our tours, so perhaps you were not listening. The Circular Church first intended to have roughly 1,000 burial spots in their respective graveyard when first conceived. Due to population growth and the lack of land, graves had to be reused in Charleston over and over again. In so doing, there are nearly 5,000 individuals buried in the graveyard. As you can clearly see, there are not 5,000 markers located in the graveyard. In Charleston's 351 year history, we have been struck by numerous storms, hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes that have caused tombstones to be damaged, moved, and lost. Many of the tombstones located at Circular are not in their original place for this reason. Finally, the graveyard was once larger than what is seen today. All of this means that no matter where you walk in the graveyard, you are walking on the dead. When walking through the graveyard, you also do not see graves for the enslaved, criminals, and the indigent. Those individuals were in fact buried in unmarked graves all over Charleston--many of which remain unknown to this day. On occasion, they are found similar to a case a few years ago when over thirty African American bodies were discovered under the Gaillard Auditorium. To your point, if you have ever been to a show there, it was quite disrespectful of you. What we do at our company is to showcase Charleston for all that it is has to offer. It was founded and operated by locals and employs more locals than any other tour company in the city. Yes, we are a for-profit business, but we take great pride in what we do and what we have to offer to everyone who decides to share in Charleston with us. You will not find a group of people more dedicated to this magnificent city. To those who choose to criticize our passion and love for Charleston, we have three simple words for you--Bless your heart.

The guide may want to focus more on the ghost aspect and less on history. He was super knowledgeable.
