Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon

Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

My friend and I really enjoyed Lance, our guide for the Death and Depravity tour. There is so much history in Charleston and Lance was not only knowledgeable but he kept his audience intrigued as he told us about the city's dark past. The best part is that this tour is adults only and doesn't begin until 10PM, which adds to the creepiness factor. I highly recommend it whether it's your first trip or you've been to Charleston many times.

We debated a while on which one to take. There was an 8:00p option or a 10:00p adult rated option. We went with the 8:00p option because we were too tired for 10p...really wish they had an adult only option at 8:00p! Macy was our tour guide. She was great! Super friendly, interactive and did a great job catering to the variety of ages in the audience. She was great with the kids. The tour took about 1.5 hrs and we walked a little over a mile during the tour. Plenty of places to stop and rest, but no restrooms. Makes sure you bring comfy shoes. Glad we went on it. We enjoyed.

I've been on ghost tours before and been disappointed. This tour was excellent. Our tour guide, Lance, had great energy and was full of information about the city. He kept the group moving at a good pace and answered all the questions. My wife and I learned so much about the city and had a great time. If you're a history buff or just want to learn more about the spooky side of Charleston I highly recommend this. It was good value. Save if you book online.
