Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon

Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

My husband and I took this tour last night and had a wonderful time. We cannot remember our tour guys name, he was awesome though he was very funny and he kept all the stories light and very informative.

My husband and I took this tour because we love Charleston and love the history of the revolutionary and Civil War. The description of the tour states, "The Ghosts of Liberty Tour is the only tour in town dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom and America. Charleston has played an integral part in many of the events in our Country's founding. You'll hear about those people, the events, and their ghosts on the Ghosts of Liberty Tour." However, that was not the case. The tour guide was not a storyteller, nor did they know Charleston's history/stories to tell them correctly. The people we were told about were of no fundamental importance or anyone we had ever heard about or related to the revolutionary war. The stories told were incorrect. This tour was a real disappointment and a waste of time and money.

Don was an excellent guide. Very well versed in local history. Easily tailored / toned down certain stories due to a couple younger guests while giving very excellent details of the locations. Heads up - It was a quick walk and lots of uneven ground for anyone with issues walking. Would do again.
