Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon
Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

Really unfortunate that this tour was so terrible. I think your tour guide makes an enormous difference. Iā€™m extremely disappointed with this company that they donā€™t have quality control over their guides. If I hadnā€™t wasted so much time on writing this review twice - Trip Advisor needed verification that this was the right tour and I didnā€™t have time to verify in time - I would also email the company for our money back. This tour was that bad that Iā€™m willing to rewrite. I had a bad feeling about Kelley from the beginning. We got to the tour site early and she had little to no interest in engaging with the group. She checked us in and then spent the rest of the time on her phone. When the other people came she never introduced everybody or told us what her background was. Her stories were unbelievable as she had a complete lack of story telling ability. Iā€™m not expecting ghost stories to be believable but you have to make them interesting or possibly stem from something historical. She also didnā€™t engage with us as we walked. She was silent until we got to the spot where she told her story. Iā€™ve never wanted to get out of a tour so fast, and Iā€™ve done tours out of the country where a tour guide had difficulty with the English language. At the end she asked for feedback if we didnā€™t like the tour. She was so fundamentally wrong for the job that I wasnā€™t going to discuss her failings. Also, not really appropriate to put people on the spot. Furthermore. At the end of the tour she asked for tips. A big no no. I always tip but this is the first time Iā€™ve never not done so. If you still decide to book, please contact the company about who your guide will be.

Had a great time on the tour. Dave the tour guide was very informative. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun ghost tour. Went to many locations.

I took my girlfriend on the late night tour, Death and Depravity. Our guide, Don, was good at giving great historical framework for events, telling us what happened and relaying any rumors about the supernatural. What was disappointing for us was how little supernatural material the tour covered. It was much higher on the depravity side of the storytelling. A second factor--this one outside of the control of the guide--that affected our enjoyment was how loud the downtown area was. It was hard to hear with all of the garbage trucks and fire engines (no sirens) moving about. Overall, we had fun but could have easily taken the tour in the earlier evening since the late time did not add any ambience. Those interested in the history of the city won't be sorry to go on this tour, but we suspect better frights are found on other tours.
