Fantastic time today taking the boat out to Morris Island with Captain Tripp as our guide. He was a wealth of knowledge about the estuaries and their eco-systems which he stopped to point out and explain along the way. We hoped to see dolphins - and we did several times! As he or one of us on the tour spotted one, he circled back to allow us to watch and see more as they continued their journey. We boated to Morris Island and its lighthouse, a sandy island, literally covered in shells. Tripp told us we might find sand dollars and larger shells - and we found dozens. Because you can only boat out to the island, and there are few people doing that in March, we enjoyed a huge beach of freshly washed-up shells since it was around 5:30pm and at low tide. We had an hour walking on the beach, just enough time to enjoy it without feeling rushed (glad I brought warm sweaters - the wind was chilly!) Going back, we spotted more dolphins and birds. I was there with my college-age daughter and her boyfriend, and they loved the tour too. FYI - the website said the guides appreciate tips, and when you get your receipt at the end of the trip, there is a place to add a tip. I was glad to see that since I don't carry cash anymore. If you take the 4:30pm tour, you'll get back to shore at 7pm. Stay for dinner or a drink at the Bowen Island Restaurant that is right next to where you dock - casual, funky, much character, oysters and fried seafood, beautiful view of the sunset and clearly very popular though hidden away at the end of a short gravel road.
