Carriage can transport up to 16 passengers per departure.
Children 3 years and under are free provided that they sit on the lap of a parent or guardian. If you want your child to have a seat, you must purchase a child seat.

Public carriage tours are seated up to 100% capacity, full capacity consists of up to 16 passengers with 4 guests seated per row.

What To Expect

Old South Carriage Company

Our stable is where your tour experience will begin and end. After checking in you can say hi to our draft horses, watch an educational video, purchases a bottle of water, or use our restroom. As you board your carriage via our inclined ramp / easy loading platform, your certified tour guide will greet you.

Charleston City Market

After leaving our stable, your carriage will stop at the City gate near the Market, where a route is assigned by the City of Charleston. Our industry is governed by this system in order to disperse the carriage traffic more evenly throughout the city. Your tour will cover about 30 blocks and 300+ years of history. Though specific landmarks vary by route, all tours pass by sights that give Charleston its unique charm – custom wrought iron gates, well-manicured gardens, historic mansions with picturesque piazzas, and the many church steeples of the “Holy City.”

Curtis and Austin were amazing. Austin’s knowledge and passion about Charleston was a welcomed treat after what was a rainy day in this historical city. Curtis handled our “second time on a tour” horse expertly and I felt safe the entire ride. They also shared some great insight on where to eat and drink. Austin’s recommendation of 82 Queen for dinner was perfect. Don’t hesitate and book this tour if you can fit it in your schedule.

Tom and our Belgian cross Cash were wonderful. Tom’s knowledge of the architecture and history of the building around Charleston were amazing. Tom had worked on some of the houses as a contractor so his insight was very interesting. The ride ended up being 75 minutes of amazing information. I would highly recommend the carriage ride and do it early in your stay to get a good overview of the area.

We enjoyed our tour in February 2022 so much that we opted again earlier this month. Same terrific experience, but on different route this time (they have multiple routes).. Can’t remember our guides’s name, but his horse was the gorgeous and majestic Moose, and the guide was excellent! Highly recommend , and we will go again!
