We (2 adults and 2 pre-teens) took the cruise on a weekday in January. The weather was cold (4C, around 39F) but beautiful and sunny. The adults enjoyed the cruise but both of our active kids found it too long. The views of the skyline, Statue of Liberty, and bridges were stunning. The cruise also gives you an excellent idea as the the scale of the island. Our boat had two levels, with some cushioned chairs on the upper deck blocked off with ropes for those who booked the slightly more expensive VIP seating. If you are travelling with someone elderly who needs a bit of padding on the chairs this might be worth it, and I suppose in high season it could also be worth it. On our trip it really wasn't necessary since there was lots of open seating and the kids were more interested in moving around the boat anyway. We arrived exactly 1/2 before the cruise and started with window seats on the side of the boat that would be "facing", ie starboard the outer boroughs (Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens etc) but we ended up moving around a lot, to the other side of the ship and the outer decks. The front outer deck was crammed with people at the Statue of Liberty, so I'd recommend heading to the outer deck upstairs, which is much bigger, or waiting for the ship to turn before going to the outer deck below, as a lot of people have headed inside by then - at least when the weather is cool. Other than this it was easy to get photos and great views. The windows downstairs were waterstained and one fogged up but they still have great sightlines. You aren't allowed to bring food on the boat but bags were given a cursory check only. I'm sure you could bring something in via pockets. The food available was just ok, with hot dogs and pretzels (around $5), sandwiches ($13), salads ($9-$13), and soup ($6) as well as chocolate and chips and pastries. Salads ran out before the cruise was over. The line was never very long and the staff was pleasant. The host was on the upper deck and very difficult to hear via the speakers on the aft lower deck. Depending on the wind he was also difficult to hear outside. The patter was interesting and his diction was clear, its just that the ambient noise and the poor quality speakers had an effect. I would take this cruise again if I were travelling with people who had mobiilty issues or architectural buffs, and the weather was reasonably clear. I'm happy we did it as it was a different way to see the island, even for someone who has travelled to NYC many times.

Almost everything about this cruise is perfect. The staff to start off with, is really nice and helpful. Chris, our tour guide was very nice to listen to and an awesome tour guide overall. The cruise does not cause any motion sickness for those wondering. The sights are clearly visible and great photos can be taken. The price as well is very fair for what you get and the experience is very informative and interesting. Very beautiful views of Manhattan as well as all the other boroughs are present and the cruise is quite luxurious if you get the premium seating. I sat in normal seating as well and that too is very comfortable. There is food available but it is on a little of the pricey side.

The complete Manhattan Cruise was brilliant. It was maybe a bit too long but only by about 15-30 minutes. The tour guide was magnificent and gave a terrific recital of the history and important landmarks. As Australians we learnt so much. Although pretty cold upstairs in December you should brave the weather as the views are tremendous and you see everything.
