Classic Road to Hana - Private Jeep Adventure

Overview
Private and customizable in an open-top (weather permitting) Jeep, our adventures provide a truly immersive experience, both in and out of the vehicle.

All Hana adventures begin at 7:00 am.
This early start time allows us to get ahead of the crowds so you can enjoy the popular locations with as few people as possible. If 7:00 am is too early for you, we can pick you up at a time that works best for you (no later than 9 am).

Take as much or as little time as you need at each stop - or skip some stops. The tour can be customized to how you want to spend your day, it is your adventure! We are here to do the driving, so you can relax and enjoy the views on your customized private tour.

2
Ho'okipa Beach Park
A world-renowned beach for surfers and windsurfers, as well as a resting spot for sea turtles, Ho'okipa is a favorite stop for our guests. Take in the view from the lookout up top, or venture down the path to the beach and discover that all those "boulders" were actually turtles!
3
Garden of Eden Arboretum & Botanical Garden
"Mauiā€™s scenic wonderland on the road to Hana!" Maui Garden of Eden Walk through 26 acres of nature trails and stunning vistas. Stop by the waterfall overlook, as well as the spot where they filmed the opening for Jurassic Park. Look out for local wildlife, including peacocks, ducks and mongoose.
4
Keā€˜anae Point
Ke'anae is an historic village, where you will find taro patches that have grown there for generations. The peninsula is well-known for its many picture-ready locations, crashing surf and rugged terrain. "On your drive down, you'll pass a stone church built in 1856, the only remaining building after the devastating tsunami of 1946, which killed twenty four people when waves topping 35 feet crashed into the village with no warning. Following this tragedy, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center was implemented, which still sits on Oahu's Ewa Beach." Maui Information Guide You will also find our favorite, warm, oven-fresh, baked daily banana bread on Maui at this picturesque location!
5
Wailua Valley State Wayside Park
Wailua Valley Overlook offers a quick stop that's blink-and-you'll-miss-it...but we won't let you miss it! Look for the "hidden" steps and walk up to the overlook that gives you an expansive, breathtaking view of azure ocean and emerald landscape like nowhere else.

Upper Waikani Falls
Also known as "Three Bears" waterfall, these beautiful falls are visible from the road and triple your viewing pleasure.
7
Pua'a Ka'a State Park
If, "swim in a waterfall," is on your bucket list, this is the stop for you! An easily accessible waterfall in a picturesque park, the adventurous can swim in the pool below the falls. There are picnic benches nearby if you're feeling snacky, as well as a convenient restroom.

Makapipi Falls
Another amazing view along the Road to Hana, Makapipi Falls is especially breathtaking after recent rain. It runs right under one of the many bridges on Hana Highway, and plummets into a striking blue pool below. Get your cameras ready!
9
Hanawi Falls
A beautiful falls surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation, get your camera ready, but leave your swimsuits and hiking shoes in the car... with potential of rockslides and flash floods down below, this aquatic rush is best seen from a distance.
10
Wai'anapanapa State Park
This is one of the most popular stops on Road to Hana because of the black sand beach. [Park reservation is included with this tour]
11
Hana Lava Tube
Ka'eleku Cave, explore the largest known accessible lava tube on Maui. Formed nearly a thousand years also, this easy 45 minute walk takes you underground with mysteries to discover. [Separate entrance fee of $12.50 per person, only cash is accepted]
12
Kahanu Garden

Marvel at Pi'ilanihale Heiau, or 'House of Pi'ilani' the largest ancient temple in all of Hawaii, which began construction at the end of the 13th century.
13
Hana
This quaint, historic town is the namesake of the Road to Hana, yet blink three times and you'll miss it! Hana has remained relatively unchanged since the early days of Hawaii, and its residents work very hard to keep it traditional and authentic.

Our driver Kimo was awesome. His communication before the trip and his knowledge during it was outstanding. My wife and I got to see all the sights without the stress of driving.

We booked a Reverse Trip to Hana, but a damaged bridge required us to be flexible, so we turned it into the Classic Trip to Hana! BJ, our guide/driver/cultural interpreter, took us to all the best places along the way. We swam on a black sand beach and a powder sand beach. He treated us to a private swim in a waterfall pool (only one of us was willing to brave the icy cold water, though!) We had a gourmet food truck lunch crawl, with three different but equally fab lunch entrees and ate still-warm-from-the-oven Aunt Sandy's Banana Bread. We nibbled on wild raspberries and strawberry guavas. BJ explained the culture and history of the people who live on the road to Hana, giving us an insider's perspective and we marveled at the tropical scenery! He not only identified plants (how trees, Chinese tulip trees, white ginger and rainbow eucalyptus) and animals (mongoose!) but explained the impact of invasive and non-native species. The Jeep was clean and comfortable and we felt perfectly safe on the twists and turns and one-way bridges along the way to Hana. We felt that having a driver and guide definitely enhanced the experience--we wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much on our own. He even had wrist bands and Hana ginger tonic for the motion-sick-prone--and they worked! Many thanks to BJ and his fellow Hana guides. They keep us visitors safe and happy as we explore a magical part of Maui.

Our tour guide Scotty Joe was the best! He knows the best stops, avoid traffic and long lines of cars and provided historical information. He could maintain our teen entertained for 8 hours with interesting facts, histories and sightseeing. At the end he presented to us the best banana bread ever!
