Adventure through Shell Key Preserve in your 100% clear kayak! See crystal-clear water, diverse marine life, and the underwater world below your clear kayak.

You’ll paddle along mangroves, enjoy white sand beaches and sandbars, and explore a secluded beach. If the tide is high, your guide will lead the way through a hidden mangrove tunnel. Shell Key Preserve is located in Tierra Verde, FL near St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay area.

Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, crabs, and more while enjoying the preserve’s picturesque mangroves, beaches, and sandbars. Be on the lookout for a manatee or the beautiful pink Roseate Spoonbills in the summer months. White Pelicans call the sandbars of Shell Key Preserve their home during the winter months! Throughout the year, dolphins frolic in the crystal-clear waters and cormorants love to swim alongside your kayak. Chances are that you’ll see a variety of wildlife, but sightings are random and not guaranteed.

Fantastic morning on the water. Chris our guide was so knowledgeable and super patient with beginners. Wind, tides and currents conspired to keep us from exploring mangroves but Shell Key was a tiny slice of paradise. If you’re a beginner this is the trip for you. So many birds, so many shells.

We are local to Tampa but decided to vacation where we lived this morning. We had a great time with Jenna and Charlie who helped guide us and were so sweet. They showed my kids (ages 9 and 6) various animals, both in and out of the water, and went at the perfect pace for us to follow (as we are not the best at kayaking). The clear Kayaks were also a HUGE bonus! I would highly recommend this tour!

Recently my family and I went on a Shell Key kayak tour. There were a total of 5 kayaks plus the guide on the trip. Overall we had a great time. We saw some interesting things in the water (no dolphons which was a bummer) and really enjoyed the time when we got out of the kayaks and explore the sand bar area, finding a lot of cool creatures. My one criticism is that the guide was not able to be heard by everyone in the group. She had a lot of intersting facts to share, but unless you were kayaking right next to her in the front of the group (which was imp[ossible to do all of the time and wouldn't be fait to others), much of the information she shared could not be heard. It would have been nicer had she stopped paddling, turned toward everyone and shared her information so everyone would benefit. Despite that, I would recommend this trip which was a lot of fun.
