This 6-hour tour explores the fjords and passageways of the Prince William Sound in route to South-central Alaska's largest tidewater glacier – Columbia Glacier. Your all-Alaskan captain and crew will share with you the history of the Sound and point out the marine wildlife and bird life in the area such as sea otters, seals, sea lions, whales, porpoises, eagles, puffins and more!

What To Expect

Columbia Glacier

Columbia Glacier is the largest glacier in south-central Alaska. Each day Columbia calves off around 8 million tons of ice. Depending on this ice flow we will navigate the large ice bergs getting as close to the face of Columbia as the ice and safety dictate.

Prince William Sound

Prince William Sound is a protected part of the ocean that we cruise in. It is rich with wildlife, glacier, beautiful glacier carved fjords and history.

A beautiful way to see the sound, the Columbia Glacier, wildlife and the icebergs. We had a gorgeous day out and saw sea otters, sea lions, puffins and 2 types of whales. We saw a humpback whale and the menky whale. Our captain was very skilled at driving the boat through the ice and spent a lot of time telling us about each animal and sight that we were seeing. We even had a chance to taste glacier ice. Because the ice field was so thick we did not get to see Columbia glacier, but the captain spent extra time looking for whales since we could not navigate up to the glacier. It was a beautiful day on the water, it did get cool when you where in the ice but after that it warmed up. The whole crew was very approachable and answered all questions anyone had. The food on board was delicious. The vegetarian soup with the warm bagel was just enough to calm the hunger pains. Free coffee, water and lemon aid was available as well. It was great to have the lemon aid and coffee, it was a treat. Would tell anyone that loves the water, or wildlife to do this trip, it was fantastic.

The crew was very friendly and attentive to the passengers. The driver did a great job explaining the culture, nearby places and we really enjoyed the adventure. We had a 2yo & a 4yo with us and it has its challenges, but it was still worth it! They even brought a piece of an ice berg onboard for the kids to touch.

Was in Valdez on a cruise with Viking Orion. Trip arranged by cruise line. A superb day on a lovely catamaran with a very good commentary and good wildlife and glacier viewing. A wonderful experience
