We just had a very awesome cruise with Stan Stephens! The captain was very steady and explained everything very clearly. We saw lots of beautiful waterfalls on the way out from Valdez. We also saw lots of porpoises, bald eagles, otters, sea lions, seals, puffins and sea gulls. We managed to get up close with Colombus Glacier and saw 3 calvings!!!! It was awesome! Lunch was served around 1 hour after the boat departs from the dock. It consists of a cup of chowder, hot bagel with cream cheese and orio cookies. Hot water and coffee is available throughout the cruise. If you get hungry, they also sell cup noodles, chocolate bars and other small treats. You can also rent binoculars for $5 onboard.

We opted for the Columbia Glacier cruise as it was shorter in time spent on the boat, but still achieved our goal of getting up close to an active glacier. Online booking was very easy and checking in on the day was also very efficient. Staff were very welcoming. Passengers should note that unlike some other cruises this does not provide any warm weather gear. It does get cold when close up to the glacier so best to take extra, which you can leave at your seat if not required. I especially recommend taking some warm gloves and hat. The boat is very clean with adequate indoor seating and good viewing areas on deck. The skipper gives an excellent explanation of what you can see and goes out of his way to deliver a really memorable experience. He does allow you to talk to him personally in the cabin, which I did find interesting. A bowl of soup is provided and hot drinks are provided free of charge throughout your journey. The soup was chowder and was delicious. We did see wildlife on our way to and from the glacier and the captain spends time so that you can get some good photos . The views of the glacier are fantastic and once again the boat does get close and spends some time in the vicinity. We did see calving on our trip which added to the spectacle but obviously cannot be guaranteed. I can strongly recommend this trip as being a fantastic visual experience.

We did not see much wild life on this day but can’t blame anyone, the team was very nice and trying to find them. We did see the glacier but from far. Was just OK.
