This 6-hour tour explores the fjords and passageways of the Prince William Sound in route to South-central Alaska's largest tidewater glacier – Columbia Glacier. Your all-Alaskan captain and crew will share with you the history of the Sound and point out the marine wildlife and bird life in the area such as sea otters, seals, sea lions, whales, porpoises, eagles, puffins and more!

What To Expect

Columbia Glacier

Columbia Glacier is the largest glacier in south-central Alaska. Each day Columbia calves off around 8 million tons of ice. Depending on this ice flow we will navigate the large ice bergs getting as close to the face of Columbia as the ice and safety dictate.

Prince William Sound

Prince William Sound is a protected part of the ocean that we cruise in. It is rich with wildlife, glacier, beautiful glacier carved fjords and history.

This is a great tour, highlight of our trip, we saw the biggest glacier calving we had ever seen at Columbia glacier, a ~150 ft tall cave on the glacier face completely collapsed. The scenery was absolutely beautiful along the way. And many many marine animals, we saw hundreds of seals lying on the beach, several whales, three dall's porpoises swimming in front of the boat for about 5 mins, and also a couple of bold eagles. The captain was very knowledgeable, giving great commentaries throughout the tour. The boat we had was very new, about one year old, it has wide catamaran style hulls which made the ride super smooth. When we got onboard, it was drizzling in Valdez and visibility was pretty low, we were a bit worried, but as we sailed to open water and got closer to Columbia glacier, the weather got much nicer with sunshine and blue skies, so don't get deterred by the weather at Valdez. Highly recommended.

As one of our last activities this holiday, we decided to go on the Glacier Tour. The crew was very friendly and the tour was awesome. We were allowed to see orcas, otters and eagles. Let's hope the children of our children are allowed to see these beautiful animals in this dreamlike environment. Unfortunately, we did not see much of the glacier because of the fog.

I don’t think it’s possible to really capture the beauty of the Prince William Sound into one review. The Stan Stephens cruise was a fantastic way to spend time in Valdez. The crew was helpful and pleasant, lunch was surprisingly delicious (and featured a solid veggie option!) and the views were, well, kind of unreal. The Columbia glacier will take your breath away. Make this cruise a priority.
