2
Prince William Sound
Prince William Sound is a protected part of the ocean that we cruise in. It is rich with wildlife, glacier, beautiful glacier carved fjords and history.

In the ads I saw where the boat gets up fairly close to the wall of glacier ice and that's why I booked the cruise, to experience it. Turns out we were quite a distance away possibly because of the floating ice chunks coming off the glacier. Other than that one thing, we were impressed with the captain, the boat, and the lunch. Lots of wildlife which he took the time to let us see. The captain was knowledgeable and I felt confident in his abilities.

Thanks for traveling with us and for taking the time to write a review. The ice at Columbia Glacier area is truly impressive, but can also create challenges in getting to the face. We are glad the rest of the day was a success.

We had a really great day trip on the Stan Stephens boat! It was a beautiful and sunny day, so visibility was really good. We saw so many animals--humpback whales, harbor seals, stellar sea lions, sea otters and lots of puffins! We got a pretty cool up close view of an oil tanker as it was coming into the port of Valdez. There was a good bit of ice, so we weren't able to get as close to the glacier as I have in other day cruises, but it was close enough to see and it was beautiful. The crew were all really friendly and the guide was excellent. Lunch was good--we had our choice of clam chowder or minestrone soup, plus a bagel with cream cheese and a pack of Oreos. There was unlimited coffee, tea, water and lemonade on board, plus a snack bar if you wanted to buy extras. The boat is spacious--we had arrived early and were the first ones on board, so we grabbed a table near the door on the upper deck to use as our 'home base'. We spent a lot of time running outside to view the wildlife, the icebergs and the glacier. It was a great day. I've taken both companies glacier cruises in Valdez and I have to say that I much prefer this one by Stan Stephens over the other. I'd highly recommend!

The staff is very professional and courteous. The lunch they served was done well and satisfying. We did see enough wildlife to keep us entertained - 2 whales, many eagles, many more sea otters, and birds. We also saw mountain goats. Going into the glacier was exciting! Exiting seem to take quite a while. Going around the Sound and learning about the oil industry and history was a great experience as well. This is a top notch tour.
