See works ranging from a small Egyptian pharaoh head to an enormous Tiffany window, and discover the wonder and artistry behind glassmaking. Explore the stunning day-lit Contemporary Art + Design Wing, which houses the best of the last 25 years in glass, and a 500-seat Amphitheater Hot Shop, a space dedicated to live glass demos and design sessions. See glass created before your eyes during a live, narrated Hot Glass Demo, and be inspired to experience glassmaking for yourself during a Make Your Own Glass workshop, with projects for all ages. Choose from fused picture frames and suncatchers, sandblasted drinking glasses, flameworked beads, pulled-glass flowers, delicate blown ornaments, and seasonal projects (additional fee). Lovely girls excursion that started at the Corning Museum of Glass. The exhibits, live demonstrations, shopping, and lunch on the property were a great way to spend the day and enjoy a few hours away from home.

I am art historian based elsewhere in New York State, where most if not all art reference libraries have been closed, at least to outside researchers since the start of the lockdown, and may well remain inaccessible into 2021. Thus in early September, I traveled to the superb and world renowned Rakow Library at the Corning Museum of Glass, primarily to do research which I could not otherwise accomplish where I live. The librarians could not have been more welcoming or helpful, as they both located the items I needed and in some cases furnished me with scans which I could take home. I also visited the Museum for the first time in nearly twenty years. And what a treat that was! I commend the Museum and its library to lovers of art everywhere and to researchers on the historic manufacture and reception of glass worldwide.

Wow, thank you so much for your compliments on the Rakow Research Library and the museum! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your visit and that our library staff members were able to help you in your research. I will be sure to share your feedback with the Rakow staff so they receive your compliments as well! We hope to see you again soon!
