Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head

Overview
Tucked between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, and accessible only by boat, Daufuskie Island is a real gem. This 4-hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Meet local artisans and learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather appropriate clothing, and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

We had ā€œCapt. Peteā€ who did a great job with local and gulla history without coming off as patronizing or being constantly on ā€œtalkā€ and bombarding you with info. It was a relaxed 4 1/2 hour trip with about an hour each way getting out to the Island. The board is covered but open on the sides and ends, so youā€™ll get wind and some rain if thatā€™s happening, so dress accordingly. Mosquitos are heavy on the island, and although they bring some spray, you may want some of your own as well. They offer apples, water and granola bars on the boat free of charge and you can buy some coffee at a stop with restrooms about 2 to 2 1/2 hours in. Overall, a great way to spend half a day, get out on the water and learn about SCā€™s Gulla and other local history.

"A great way to spend half a day, get out on the water and learn about SC's Gullah." Great representation of our History and Artisans Tour! Captain Pete always shares great history and local lore. We look forward to the next trip! Abby, PR Manager [email protected]

I went on the tour 10/20/19 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The boat ride was pleasant. Captain John provided a lot of interesting information and answered all our questions. He also was our golf cart driver and gave us the tour of the island. I enjoyed the whole experience and would highly recommend this trip for first timers to Daufuskie.

The tour was so informative. We learned much about the history of this island so close to us off the May River.
