What To Expect

Charleston City Market

Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour long horse or mule drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.

We had a nice ride with James and his horses, Yogi & Boo Boo. It was a lovely ride around some of the lovely old neighborhoods of Charleston. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting for the first time.

We were not impressed and feel that we wasted our money. The tour took us through the public housing area. The tour guide was not informed or knowledgeable at all. The horse driver knew more than she did and we had a hard time even following the woman who was giving the tour because she kept fumbling over her words. The things they did show us, were mundane and of very little historical value or interest. Definitely a waste of money. Pay a little more for a longer tour and pray for a knowledgeable tour guide.

We wanted the four of us to have a private carriage ride so spent the extra money for that, what a wonderful driver we had, her name was Brianna! She was so informative, knew her history facts. She was ready for any questions we asked. The ride was a great way to see the historical sights!
