We had Andrew as our guide. It was OK, but the drive shaft (or whatever it was called) on the carriage broke and we had to sit and wait quite a while for someone to bring a replacement part. With that we lost some valuable time. Additionally, because Andrew said that the temperature was high (over 94) the city was shutting down all carriage tours. However, after leaving we saw the other 3 companies were continuing their tours. This is not something they can unilaterally decide to do, because the city has to give each carriage its assigned route for each tour. Except for the nostalgic value of a carriage ride, I would not do any of the carriage tours again because although there are several routes, the city assigns each tour to a specific route. So to get a full tour of the city will requires several carriage tours. I would opt for a bus tour, which covers the entire downtown, or a private carriage tour. You can do a walking tour covering all the major areas on your own, with a detailed book from the Visitor Center or a structured guided walking tour.

Josh driving Martha and Butter made a great team. They provided an interesting and lively tour. Great way to get an overview of the city. There were 7 adults in our party (4 on one row and 3 on the next) plus additional people filling out the rest of the carriage. Carriage is easy to step into and out of. I like that they helped educate us on the care and keeping of the horses as well as their "history" too.

Relaxing and informative. Tour guide was great. Very nice way to do this first and get your bearings as to what to go back and revisit.
