What To Expect

Charleston City Market

Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour long horse or mule drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.

The facility is easy to find and appears very well kept. The horses look well cared for. All the staff was friendly and helpful. Our guide was informative and entertaining. The city randomly assigns tour routes which is a limitation for any carriage company in Charleston. We chose the private tour for Covid safety. The guide and all staff we encountered wore their mask appropriately. I was a little disappointed that we only got to drive up and back on the same street (Meeting St for route 2A) but our guide did her best to add in a lot of information on the area and this route did include some impressive homes. This is a pricey option to see such a small area but we did enjoy the experience of the carriage ride.

My 18 yr old daughter and I began our first day in Charleston with a ride with Palmetto tours. Lovely, knowledgeable guide and great hour spent trecking through parts of the city. Can tour multiple times and get different aspects of the city. If we’d had more time I definitely would have done that!
