We were told that a horse and carriage tour of Charlestons was a "must-do", and I have to say that I agree. We booked an 9:00AM tour, and arrived early. We were greeted at the Big Red Barn by a friendly staff that made us comfortable while waiting for our ride. My son was able to visit with the horses which he thoroughly enjoyed, and the staff was able to tell him a little about the horses. The tour took us through some residential areas of historic Charleston where the very knowledgeable tour guide provided interesting facts about Charleston and the history of the city. The tour was very relaxing and informative. I would definitely book through Palmetto Carriage Works again. We really enjoyed it.

Great tour! Great Guide! But no social distancing at all this was totally inappropriate for current circumstances

Hi Benjamin, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and guide! If you come back, we offer plexiglass by request and options for private rows and private carriages. Distancing isn't always an option in this kind of activity, but we also require masks, clean the carriages in between tours, and have added extra waiting areas. Thanks, Marina

The horse and carriage ride are interesting, relaxing and entertaining. Definitely a fun activity. This could be improved by assuring that more historic sites are in the tour instead of the random assignments of each tour to stay within a different zone of the City. It shouldn’t be “luck of the draw” as to what you see - or at least offer different tour options.

We agree and wish we could change the system, but unfortunately we have no control over which route the City official assigns each carriage. What we can do, though, is offer you a refund if you come back to try for a different route and get the same one again. The odds are in your favor, though, as there are 5 zones in total. Hope to see you again, glad you found it entertaining! Thanks!
