No better way to navigate downtown than in a horse-drawn carriage. The slow pace, the chance to absorb the history, and fabulous architecture made this a must tour.

Shawn was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable about Charleston. He shared a ton of information during our one hour guide around downtown. I was able to make same day reservations, which was extremely convenient for us. After checking in, we had about a 15 minute wait for our ride. During this time, many of the staff were caring for the horses (and mules) that were in the stables, from ear rubs to mane grooming, these animals appeared to be very well loved and cared for.

We really enjoyed this tour. I feel like we learned enough about Charleston to be interesting but not overwhelmed with facts. It was very cold the day of our tour and the open carriages do not provide blankets so dress warmly on cold days. Also, ask at your hotel for discount coupons for this activity if you haven't already prepaid on line.
