Doing a carriage tour isn't something we would normally do but it is definitely a must when in Charleston. Because their animal policy is very transparent and it is clear the animals are well taken care of, we thought Palmetto Carriage Works was the best company to choose for this experience. We had our tour with Matthew and Carlos, a handsome Percheron. Matthew has a great sense of humour and told interesting stories about everything we saw. As well, the company is well-organized and efficient in organizing trips. The route you take is chosen by a lottery system so there is a variety of stops you may (or may not) make. It's a great way to see Charleston in an interesting way.

Enjoyed our 1 hour carriage tour of Charleston. Went thru some home areas and passed a few churches along with the old jail. Our tour guide was awesome and she even sang to us. We had to reserve our time because they do sell out. The only negative, if there is one, was the wait to board our carriage in the barn. Walking there we did pass a couple of independent carriages we possibly could have gotten right on and it Would have been just the 3 of us. Definitely do a horse carriage ride in Charleston, it’s a must!

Billy Hood was our tour guide and he was VERY knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. The ride was smooth and not rushed. We enjoyed it a lot.
