We've taken several of these kinds of trips over the years from NY to Chicago to San Francisco & can easily say that this was the most disappointing tour that my wife & I have been on. Washington is an awesome town & there are obviously many wonderful buildings, historical sites, statues etc to see. Unfortunately our guide seemed to be there to do a job & get the day over with. He had a basic knowledge of the primary sites, but if we weren't right on his script there wasn't the kind of background & insight that we've seen from other tour companies. In fact, the 10 minutes we waited for our guide to show up was very insightful as the person who checked us in provided the kind of local knowledge / flavor that we have come to expect on these kinds of junckets. I'll add that the guide's apparent inexperience would have been more tolerable if he had been a "people person", but he wasn't. He was pretty abrupt several times, & I got to feeling that he just didn't care to be there. I won't accept that he might have had a bad day or whatever. We spent a considerable amount for a 6 hour tour & that is fine for a professional tour. A guide needs to be "on" every day, or just find a replacement for that day. My wife & I will certainly take a chartered bus tour the next time that we arrive in a major city on vacation. We are already planning our next trip to Boston next spring, but certainly Signature Tours will not be on our list of companies to travel with.

I selected this tour for my family of 13 people with high expectations. We were there to have fun but did not enjoy this particular tour. First, the tour guide showed up 20 minutes late. Then, he proceeded to rush us through each stop, alloting 10 minutes at each stop. I understand that we cannot spend all day at each monument but I was told that we would be given 15 minutes each over the phone when booking the tour. Traveling with young children and elderly grandparents, this was an issue for us since many of the places involve walking or waiting on line for an elevator. On one of the stops, a few people from our group fell a few feet behind of our speedwalking guide and he proceeded to sternly lecture us (I felt like it was more like yelling but he said he wasn't yelling) in front of the rest of the group. The reason we fell behind is because my toddler fell and we stopped to pick him up. Our guide did not make the tour fun or exciting at all. He looked serious and angry for the entire 3 hours. This was not comforting at all since it was 90 degrees outside and inside the bus was blowing hot air (which the courteous bus driver apologized for). I will not be using Signature Tours again.

We booked this site seeing trip through our hotel concierge the day before the tour. The bus came directly to our hotel to pick us up, which was great. He picked us up a little early, before the tour was scheduled to start. We went to two other places to pick up additional people for the tour and then we started. The tour was six hours long and it was well worth the price! The best thing was we didn’t have to worry about directions and/or parking. We drove past many Washington DC landmarks and significant sites! Our tour guide was GREAT, she gave us lots of interesting facts while we were on the bus driving past the many sites. When we parked and got off the tour bus at the many Memorials, our guide was like a walking and talking history book full of information. We Loved It! We stopped and got off the bus several times to see several Memorials. Halfway through the tour we stopped for a lunch break. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, there was a lot of walking. The day we took the tour, we did not take the boat ride down the Potomac. This tour was awesome and we would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
