The DeYoung is a beautiful museum in a great location in Golden Gate Park! I loved all the art and the special exhibit on Dutch masters. Don't miss going up the tower for a wonderful view of San Francisco.

The visit to the de Young Museum was thoroughly enjoyable. The view from the museum tower nine floors above showcased the lovely grounds below and gave a spectacular view of the San Francisco surroundings.

The exhibits were refreshing with the exquisite The Girl with the Pearl Earrings amongst the works of the various Dutch artists. The room with the whimsical pieces was a favorite with a mixture of silver raindrops poised from the ceiling, Chiluly flowers and bowls, and pieces of varied textures and colors.

... and modern exhibitions and also modern (pop) art works. There is a large section for African art as well as works by Edward Hopper and Andy Warhol. The works of American painters from the time of the Civil War and before are very interesting. For example, you learn that there were already parties in the USA at that time that were in favor of a strict isolation of the country because of the "uncontrolled influx of people" from abroad. That was 150 years ago, when there were just over 30 million people living in the whole of the USA, 3 million of whom were slaves. The entrance fee is not cheap at $38 for access to all exhibitions, but it is reasonable.
