So our adventure begins in a lovely little town in Idaho. We took our last bachelor to be down to the town of Bend for a little fun, a few beers, and a lot of white water. It was a nice little Saturday and we woke 11 handsome young Idahoans up after a long night of adult beverages at 7 am for one of the most un-expectingly awesome adventures of our lives. We somehow arrived on time to this little river town and found our way to the rafting castle at the top of the hill. We were greeted by some rich and sexy owner and the interestingly handsome bus driver. Who proceeded to take our money, sign waivers, then put us is some tight fitting wet suits. Yes, we all looked very good that day. We strutted around to the back of the new shack to be greeted by 3 very different looking humans. Crusty Mike, cold legs Jada (intern), and Keith (aka Steve). They plopped our buns in the short bus and we headed out for water. Mike stood at the front of the bus and proceeded to tell us a bunch of made up stories about the little town of Maupin. Driving up the river with Crusty Mike's commentary continuing with stories of every spot we saw driving up the water's edge. Jada gave a nice little safety talk and then Crusty Mike reiterated the safety topics in his own way. 5 of us Jumped in with Keith the younger, handsome guide while we left the other 6 boys in a boat with Crusty Mike and Jada. It took a few minutes, but we got Keith to open up about his little Maupin life and start having some fun. Mind you, we are small town folks ourselves. Keith was an absolute pro. The perfect 20ish something guide. Good-looking dude with a pair of Harry Potter tinted glasses. He's really good at the River lingo, basically Surfer lingo with a river twist. He knew all the good spots on the river and made the trip a blast. Half way through we stopped in town and grabbed lunch. 2 local Trailer Parker's BBQ'd for us a delishes meal of hot dogs and burgers. We're still not sure if they were river drifter employee's, but thatā€™s probably the way this little town rolls. Mike's a little bit of a talker and proceeded to tell us about the local insects that the salmon in the river eat. We used the 1950's bathroom and head back out on the water with full stomachs and a lot of enthusiasm for adventure. At this moment we talked Keith into taking us down the most bad ass rapid on the river "Oak Springs". He's a cool dude so he kindly agreed to risk his life with us. So finally after a few miles we got to just above the most B A rapid on the river. They gave us another little safety talk and we strapped on our big girl britches and headed down to oak springs. Mike and the first boat took the easy route and setup as a safety boat below. Just before we drop in Keith slips in one little last story about how 3 older woman made it down just fine last year. Our confidence and testosterone was at its highest peak. We setup for the perfect approach to Oak Springs and off to our right was half the town (all 7 of them). We surfed down the nasty side of the rapid at Oak Springs, grabbed the straps and flew down that thing like a school of Clown fish. Instantly flipping and put all 6 of our manly bottoms in the river. The whole town and safety boat cheered, then laughed as we flopped each of ourselves onto the shore. Keithā€™s buddy from high school was there on shore and told us how awesome we were for taking on the east side of Oak Springs. A few boys from Idaho and Bachelor are now Legends in the town of Maupin. Keith of course had to buy beer for everyone in the shop (sorry about that) that night for giving a few customers a dip in the river. We asked for it and we got what we asked for. Keith is our favorite guide of all time. We would love to go back again and again. The last 5 miles were chill and the views were spectacular. We swapped our best jokes, cracked a beer with our Buddyā€™s (Guides of course donā€™t drink) and ended the day with an experience we will never forget. Crusty Mike stood at the front of the bus on the way home and continued his love speech of Maupin and may have even poked a little fun at Keith. Totally worth every minute. Top class outfit. River Drifters Every time. The crew earned their tip that day, and our adventure that day was priceless.

Awesome trip! I'd never rafted a white water river before. Kim gave great info on the area and some local lore. She guided us skillfully through the rapids to allow for a lot of splashing but no inadvertent initiation into the "Deschutes River Swim Club". It was a fun trip. I highly recommend it!
