Distillery Tour

Overview
Join us for a one-hour guided tour of J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s iconic distillery, located in the historic Electric Park neighborhood of the East Bottoms district. Discover the history of our brand, from its founding during the wild and raucous years when the city boasted “the wettest block in the world”, to its premature demise at the dawn of Prohibition, and eventual revival in 2014, nearly a century later.

Enjoy extensive access to each phase of the distillation process, from grain to bottle. The tour will conclude with a tasting of our four core products led by one of our knowledgeable guides.

So- snow in October is unusual and set the scene for an interesting history filled tour of the distillery. My brother was in town and we decided to check out J Rieger and Co. We were in the Heim Brewery a few years ago for a pop up Holiday store- what a transformation. The Rieger team lovingly restored the building to a beautiful space to make and store their products- they have a small interesting museum and a restaurant and speak easy lounge in the basement. The tour was great and the guide was knowledgeable- ended with more history and tasting and then a full sized cocktail of your choice. We ate before we went but will return to check out the restaurant for a weekend brunch and the club as well. We sampled the pecan pie after the tour and it was yummy....enough to lure us back for more.

Place is big. Between the entry-level small museum and tour/tasting, the upstairs lounge & whiskey hall, and the basement speakeasy/club, there's a nice range of experiences to enjoy. We only were able to visit upstairs, though enjoyed the time; bar staff was friendly and knowledgable. We plan to return and do the tour/tasting. Oh, and at least one of us loved going down the slide!

Love the story behind how this distillery came to be and came back. Our tour guide, Phil did a great job.
