Distillery Tour

Overview
Join us for a one-hour guided tour of J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s iconic distillery, located in the historic Electric Park neighborhood of the East Bottoms district. Discover the history of our brand, from its founding during the wild and raucous years when the city boasted “the wettest block in the world”, to its premature demise at the dawn of Prohibition, and eventual revival in 2014, nearly a century later.

Enjoy extensive access to each phase of the distillation process, from grain to bottle. The tour will conclude with a tasting of our four core products led by one of our knowledgeable guides.

This distillery is beautiful! The building used to be a brewery and they have restored it to its natural charm and glory! You can take a tour of the distillery, I would recommend making a reservation as all of the tours were full when we got there. They have an area with historical information that you can walk through that is free. Go up stairs to the Monogram Lounge for handcrafted cocktails and upscale bar food. I recommend the smoked trout dip, it's amazing! You can buy liquor on site as well, we took home several souvenirs!

We had a group of 8 friends take the tour, and were joined by about 10 others. We loved that the tour attracted people of all ages. We enjoyed learning about the history of the building (beautifully restored), the Rieger family, and the distilling process. The tasting at the end was delicious and gave us a chance to interact with others on the tour. Afterward, our group went upstairs to the Monogram Lounge for additional cocktails and appetizers. It was a great way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. Note that you will spend a few minutes in the barrel rickhouse, which they warn you is not climate controlled and can be warm or cold depending on the weather. It was very, very warm when we were there. I would recommend dressing in layers so you can doff or don a jacket as necessary. Knuckleheads is just across the railroad tracks to the north, and would be fun destination after the J. Rieger tour.
