Insight into Lowcountry cuisine accompanies the broad range of samples on your food tour. This is our original tour around the French Quarter and City Market and focuses on the traditional flavors of the region.

What To Expect

Charleston

After meeting your foodie guide at the first restaurant location in downtown Charleston, you will begin your walking tour and visit 3-4 restaurants, where you'll sample dishes at each, and then a final stop for dessert. Each visit lasts 20 to 30 minutes, and you'll be seated to rest your legs. For most people, the amount of food served is enough for a meal. As you enjoy walking through this historical section of the city, listen to stories about Charleston's culture and cuisine from your guide, who points out landmarks along your route. This wonderful experience will end within walking distance of your starting point. *Please advise about Allergies in the ( Special Requirements section) during check out! *Dietary restrictions need to be communicated at least 24 hours in advance to be accommodated *Unfortunately we can not accommodate Vegan, Dairy Free or Soy Free diets

We had a great time on this food tour. Our kids were 8 and 12 and did fine. Overall lasted about 3 hours, stopping at 4 restaurants. Great variety of food (at the end it felt like a complete dinner). Hoon was very funny and told engaging stories about Charleston’s history and culture. Definitely recommend!

My wife and I went on the 2pm Downtown tour on a Friday in mid-August. Stops were Poogan's Smokehouse (sweet cornbread, pulled pork sandwiches, pimiento cheese balls), Craftsman Kitchen and Taphouse (Asian pork sandwich, fried potato slice, and Mexican street corn), Oyster House (praline hushpuppies, shrimp with grits, she-crab soup), and Kaminsky's (pecan pie). A good introduction to southern food with lots of variety. Everything was really good. Portion sizes were adequate if not generous. The (sauceless) pulled pork sandwich and the she-crab soup were the highlights for us. Dustin was a personable, knowledgeable guide with a somewhat wry sense of humor, which we like. He answered all questions and pulled up photos on his phone to illustrate historical anecdotes. He did a good job. As for the negatives, one was the additional charges. We paid $13.10 for a beer flight at the taphouse and $6 for an espresso martini at Kaminsky's. We've been on numerous food tours all over the US and Europe and, although the total price of this food tour with optional add-ons is comparable to any other food tour we've been on, we prefer the "all-inclusive" setup when we've had that. The second negative was the size of the group. There were (I think) 16 of us. Not huge by any means, but it meant we had to be seated at multiple tables (Poogan's and Kaminsky's) or at one long one (everywhere else). Add to that the ambient noise in the restaurants and it was sometimes almost impossible to hear Dustin speak, even when he was just a notch below yelling (the taphouse). Service at several stops was quite slow as well. Duration was slightly longer than advertised...we were finished at 5pm instead of 4:30 (3 hours vs. 2.5), but that's not a bad thing since we took our time. Overall a solid tour with lots of good food.
