I really wanted to love this tour, but it didn't live up to my expectations. We started late (no fault of the guide, the other 7 people were late), and the first restaurant was late getting our drinks so we spent almost an hour at the first place (out of a 3 hour tour). Enjoyed the food at that stop (Eli's Table) and the host was very generous with portions and information about the food. I did want to know about the restaurant, but didn't hear anything about it. Next stop was a BBQ place (Poogans BBQ). Food was plentiful and the server told us what we were eating. The third place (Lowcountry) our food was served and there was no mention of what we were eating. Two of the three things on the plate were deep fried something and the third was an Oyster. The Oyster was delicious, so I asked how it was prepared and what kind of oyster it was- server had no idea. Next person told me it was served warm with a garlic/butter sauce, but no clue on the Oyster. No idea what the fried stuff was! LOL! The last place was Kaminsky's for dessert. Best stop of all four! Delicious Toll House Pie and Happy Hour Martini prices! Our guide was very knowledgeable, but was only able to give us limited information, as the other 7 people were a group of work colleagues that just wanted to talk work with each other, over the guides information. The guide couldn't do anything about this... I wish he would have presented himself more professionally (a bit disheveled and very dirty clothes), and talk more about Charleston and the food I was eating instead of himself. He should have taken more control of the group and guided them to information about the town/food. I have been on many other food tours in many cities, and this one ranked towards the bottom when it came to information. Food was pretty good and plentiful, but I came for more than just that!
