After meeting your foodie guide at the first restaurant location in downtown Charleston, you will begin your walking tour and visit 3-4 restaurants, where you'll sample dishes at each, and then a final stop for dessert. Each visit lasts 20 to 30 minutes, and you'll be seated to rest your legs. For most people, the amount of food served is enough for a meal. As you enjoy walking through this historical section of the city, listen to stories about Charleston's culture and cuisine from your guide, who points out landmarks along your route. The food was tasty, and the tour was rich in history. Barbecue with fixins and seafood options. (I really liked the shrimp and grit, and my husband enjoyed the praline butter with the hush puppies.) I expected more from desert, which was just fudge cake- nothing unique or regional about that. (It was rich, and we did go back for carrot cake another day. It was delicious!) The guide was a bit strong in her contempt for visitors and transplant residents early on in the tour. Her passion for preservation was clear and her unique perspective was really interesting, but her delivery felt a bit unwelcoming right at the beginning of the tour. Perhaps a bit more foundational history before expressing frustration with non-Charlestonians?

Being first-timers in Charleston, the Culinary tour was a great way to get acquainted with downtown cuisine. Loved meeting new people and sharing travel stories. Simon knows everything about everything in Charleston! We sampled 4 restaurants and finished with small dessert. Highly recommend.

Butler was lovely and the tour was fantastic. We spent just enough time at each restaurant and the food was very tasty!
