This was a Father's Day gift for my husband who is a foody. We love SB and wanted to do something different, so we spent June 15, 2014 on the tour. The 7 stops were all really great. The taco dish at Rudy's was the biggest we'd ever enjoyed in our 40+ years as Mexican food fans. Muy Bueno! The tapas, acai and granola berry bowl, wine tasting, beer sampling, ice cream and, my husband's fave... the lobster bisque capped with a light biscuit, were just AWESOME! Erin our guide was professional, knowledgeable and personally committed to leading us on an interesting, unique tour of Lower State Street and the "Funk Zone". The local history and architectural sites of the area helped round out the tour and make the time walking between eateries as pleasant as the food.
One great thing about going on this tour was that we by-passed lines at all of these places, which, at some locations like the Brewhouse, were 40 people or more long. We ate so much in 3 hours that we didn't need to dine out that night. Advice: Keep breakfast light, because your lunch begins the tour and it is a lot of food (delicious!).The food and tour were a real class act at a bargain price. The cost even included the tips for the wine pourers, etc.
We drove from San Luis Obispo County to SB, but for anyone living along the Coast, it might be fun to just take Amtrak's Surfliner Line into SB, since the tour begins about 1 block west of the train station, and ends near it as well.
The walk is quite moderate, but wear comfortable walking shoes, and a hat or sunscreen if it is a typical beautiful day in Santa Barbara.
Have fun! Thanks, Erin for a great tour and all around great experience!
