Guided tour versus on your own. I struggled choosing to tour vs planning on my own. The plus of the guided tour was the comfort of the ride to and from as well as the tidbits of NYC information provided along the way. You spend a good amount of time on the bus getting to and from. When we did stop it felt rushed to get through the lights and you can't venture off the path. That is the downside as you might just see the one display you want to check out but cant because you have to stay on tour. I actually liked Bay Ridge better thank Dyker Heights. The lights were just as good and much less crowded. Dyker Heights were so crowded you felt like you were in times square. It actually made it a little less enjoyable. Overall I think it is a must do and the guided tour is the best choice for the first timer. Just don't be that person who goes off the path and get lost in Dyker Heights. You would think it couldn't happen but it does. We had to wait 20 minutes for 4 people to make it back. How rude and inconsiderate. In my opinion the tour guide should have left them.

This is the 2nd time seeing the Dyker Heights Lights. You haven't seen xmas lights till you have done Dyker Heights Xmas Lights. Did the ROW NYC tour - catching bus from Midtown, and traveling to first Bayridge, which has beautiful lights loved the house with only Blue lights, - stunning, 20 minutes to wander around, take photos, then back on the bus to Dyker - 40 minutes to do same - just amazing, the effort that goes into this, and the joy it brings. Great place to take visitors from out of town - even people from town have never been before. A MUST DO.
