My family and I recently went on the float trip down the Chilkat river. Our guide, Andy, not only knew the river like the back of his hand, he was also a fabulous historian and I left the trip with a deeper sense of the the history of the land and the people. Wonderful, wonderful experience.

My wife and I book a half day float trip in Haines. We are the only two people that day on the raft which can take four persons (They also have raft that can take eight people), and get an excellent trip with Andy, the owner. Andy is informative, friendly, competent, and fun to talk to. We sat back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and many eagles. At the end of the trip ,they offer smoked salmon, crackers, cheese, and drinks. They also take us to the store where they get the smoked salmon which is really delicious. They also offer week-long camping trip too.

My wife and I were fortunate to have a stellar weather day for our guided float trip (9/20/17) through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Mild temps, sunshine, minimal breeze and fall colors was more than we could ask for. There were also only 2 others on the trip with us which made it a very personal experience. Smooth pick-up at cruise ship dock and we were off for a pleasant van ride to our launch location on the River. The float was great as we saw probably 100 + bald eagles during the journey. Some of them in trees, on the river banks, on rocks in the river and flying around. We easily floated past some eagles that were less than 30 yards away. Our guide (Becky) was super knowledgeable, friendly and capable on the river. You could tell she really enjoys what she does. At the take-out point our van driver (Sam) had snacks and hot drinks waiting for us. Of the drive back to our cruise ship we were provided in more information about the area from Sam & Becky which was quite interesting. This trip with Haines Rafting Company is highly recommended!
