This was advertised as a wildlife rafting adventure where we would see Bald Eagles and possibly river otter, moose, bears or even wolves. Meh. We saw maybe 8 eagles because they were in a remote part of the preserve where the salmon were running, and those were way up in trees. Nothing else but a lot of dead trees in the cold water. Now, it was beautiful and very peaceful. It's also cold so dress warm. Even if the sun is shining its 10 degrees chillier on the glacier fed river and it gets very breezy. I give it 4 stars for the beauty and peace. And the guides really know their stuff. Very friendly and eager to answer questions. However, I can't in good conscience recommend this. It's a long day (if your port is Skagway you need to take a boat to a bus to the rafts) and you're not guaranteed to see ANY wildlife. Plus the rafts are really not comfortable at all. You're probably better off doing an excursion right out of Skagway.

You have mistaken Haines Rafting Co. for another company. Haines Rafting Company does not operate by boat from Skagway and is not sold onboard cruise ships. We also do not operate buses. Haines Rafting Co. offers a premium raft tour that sees 30 to 40 eagles per trip in August and operates with 1 guide and a van. For an accurate trip description please visit our website. Andy met us at the cruise docks when our ship arrived and took us in a comfortable van to the launch site up the river. He was friendly, energetic, and a very fun guide. We had a great trip through the eagle reserve and saw LOTS of eagles during the trip. The float trip was comfortable (and dry!), and Andy's narrative was entertaining and informative. The river moved quickly, but there was no white water. Booking directly with Haines Rafting saved us quite a bit of money versus booking a similar trip through the cruise line. And in comparing experiences with others on our cruise line, our trip was more enjoyable (less crowded, we put in higher on the river, and saw more eagles).
