Egmont Key Ferry from Ft. DeSoto in Tierra Verde, FL

Overview
If you want to spend some time on a beautiful pristine island paradise, the ferry to Egmont Key State Park from Fort De Soto is a great choice for you and your family! Get ready for a day of fun in the sun with Hubbard’s Marina. The ferry ride to the island is about 25-30 minutes and offers great chances to spot dolphins, sea turtles, and sometimes even manatees! We often spot sea birds on the ride to and from Egmont Key Island aboard the Hubbard’s Ferry, our big blue boat.

Once on the island, Egmont Key offers great shelling, swimming, and opportunities for adventures. Including Fort Dade, a fort that dates back to the Spanish American war for to explore. Egmont Key is also home to a large population of endangered native gopher tortoises!

Be sure to pack like you’re spending the day at the beach! Bring sunscreen, towels, bathing suits, protective hats, shirts. Egmont Key is a pristine island so come prepared with a cooler full of water, food and drinks.

We took the ferry to Egmont Key and had such a blast! It made our visit to St. Pete a truly memorable experience. I wish I could remember the boat guides' names - Jason and Scott perhaps? 'Jason' was a laid-back, and personable captain and guide. If we spotted dolphins and manatees, he drove closer and stopped so we could try to see them, which was so fun! They made sure everyone was comfortable and had a good time. When we were due to depart the island there were a couple people missing, so they waited and called them on the phone to make sure they weren't left behind. Egmont Key was a gorgeous place to swim and explore. The water is crystal clear and we saw a stingray and a large fish! There was no bathroom on the boat or the island, so be sure to use the one in the Fort DeSoto parking lot before you depart. There were some cold drinks and light snacks for sale on board, and you could rent a beach umbrella or chair or bring your own.

I recommend choosing an interesting place to snorkelling as shown in videos published about the ruins submerged in the sea or on some coral reef. On the shore on vegetation is not a good place. Nothing interesting to see. If you get lucky maybe you can see some manatee swimming nearby in the 30 min time they allocate to this activity.

Perfect for the family! Excellent value, very informative and engaging. Such a unique experience! Cannot wait to be back. Saw lots of fish, and tortoises. It was the kids first snorkeling experience and couldn’t have been better!
