This was certainly the best day of our six in Alaska (although the glacier trekking was a close second). I highly recommend this excursion and ABAK. It really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I went with my husband and two teenagers (age 14 and 16). Our guide, Liz, was wonderful and our pilots (Eric and Dan) were great. She was very knowledgeable and kind and easy to be with all day. A very experienced guide. The float plane ride itself was amazing, and that was just the transportation. I believe that most visitors to Pack Creek fly straight to Admiralty Island, but for us the kayaking was an added bonus. The setting was just spectacular, and the kayaking quite manageable (probably just over half-hour of paddling each way). My husband and I could have spent more time on the water, but the kids aren't crazy about paddling so it was just right for them. We watched bears from one location for about 3 hours. We saw 5 different bears, at least one of which was in view almost the whole time we were viewing. This is certainly not guaranteed and I think we were lucky. The scope provided enabled a very close view. I do have to say that we were also lucky that the weather was beautiful (it rained almost continuously the other 5 days of our trip). I know you have to book this trip ahead of time, but if there is any way to get a weather forecast before you book, check the weather. Also, three hours was too long in one spot for my 14-year-old son, but if you planned less time there you might not see bears.

Thank you Liz!! We really appreciate you providing this detailed feedback. Pack Creek is so unique and special, definitely worth the trip! I will make sure to pass your kind words onto our Liz as well. Excellent tip for some guests - this is a more passive wildlife and scenery watching tour than our other tours. There is more down time and observation, sometimes 3 to 4 hours of sitting peacefully watching bears, eagles, and other wildlife. With no cell service, this can be especially hard on some guests so please consider that when picking your tour. For many of us though, 4 hours of wildlife watching is an amazing day and the best way to spend a vacation. Please let us know if you have any questions about what tour is best for your group. Thanks again Liz and have a great rest of your vacation!
