TLTR: Just book with Kealoha! *I am not paid, nor did I get a discount for my review* We decided to spurge for a trip to Alaska but wanted to have excursions that were intimate and not with 100 people on a bus and not at the schedule of the provider. We did this at each port of call and got a gem with Kealoha. Resident of Sitka gave us a tour of the island with our desired attractions along with her input. She suggested we visit the National Forest; this was not on our radar to begin as we thought our teenage boys would get bored quick. Got dropped off at the entry like a VIP as with all stops, and to our surprise, it was Pink Salmon spawn in the river of the Sitka National Forest. Mind was blown by the sights. Kealoha provided all the facts and was able to answer all our inquiring questions about the ecosystem. It was so interesting to hear of the history of Sitka and what day-to-day life is like for the community, as a group of 4 rather than a group of 40+. When we arrived in Sitka, the main fiber Internet communication to the island was severed. We wanted to visit the Raptor Center, but they only accepted cash due to the Internet outage. Kealoha was able to negotiate with the center to get us access and see the amazing birds of prey they work to rehabilitate and house. Afterwards we visited the Bear Fortress, which we thought was a tourist trap. Kealoha explained they take in cubs when the mother is killed or poisoned as they could not survive on their own. It was only $40 for the 4 of us and the money is used to pay for the hundreds of pounds of food needed daily to feed the occupants. When we arrived, it was jammed up jelly tight with lots of tours. Kealoha asked use to hold tight while she parked and noted the tours would clear soon. Just as she stated, they started calling for “green stickers” to report to bus departure, followed by “orange stickers”, and then “green bands”; next thing we knew, we were there with just a few dozen visitors. Kealoha helped make memories for a lifetime for my family and it was less expensive than the cruise tours. My sincere appreciation to Kealoha.
