Our visit to Filoli was nothing short of magical! This stunning estate features a magnificent 54,000-square-foot, 56-room house, built in 1917, set against the backdrop of an English Renaissance garden. Spanning 654 acres, with 16 acres dedicated to exquisite formal gardens, this property is a true treasure. The gardens were breathtaking, offering a feast for the senses with their vibrant colors and meticulously designed landscapes. There is so much to see and learn at Filoli, which enhances the overall experience. Although free tours are included with the entrance fee, we weren’t initially informed about them—something I discovered only after inquiring. It was unfortunate, as the tours were a highlight of our visit! I participated in two, and both were exceptional, filled with fascinating insights about the property’s rich history. Interestingly, Filoli has had only two owners in over a century. The original owner aptly named it by combining the first two letters of key words from his personal credo: "Fight for a just cause. Love your Fellow Man. Live a Good Life." This philosophy truly resonates throughout the estate. As a notable aside, Filoli has also hosted significant events, including a historic diplomatic summit between President Biden and President Xi Jinping of China in November 2023. Be sure to allocate plenty of time for your visit, as there is an abundance to explore and appreciate at this remarkable estate!

Such a beautiful historic house and gardens. I visited as they were setting up for Christmas. I love the jazz music they play in the garden. This was the highlight of my trip to the Bay area and I highly recommend you visit!!

My Mom and I really enjoyed the beautiful gardens. The house is fun because unlike many museum homes, there’s a lot you can touch and play with. The different periods the home was occupied are all represented. The cafe served good food. The tea time option looks super cute and fun. I’ll have to go back for that!
