Food Carts of Portland Bike Tour: local flavors and stories

Overview
Portland’s famous food carts are scattered all over the city's five (now six) quadrants, over 600 in total, in over 60 pods — collections of food carts! Starting at our shop, 833 SE Main Street #121, we'll put you on one of our lightweight bicycles and guide you on a 8-12 mile (11-17 km) culinary experience through some of our best-loved chefs and makers, sampling everything from Oregon farm-to-table delights to snacks appropriate to late-night cravings.

Our focus is on locally-owned businesses with a great story; we’ll take you to a few of our favorites, many of which were important in creating the food cart scene as it exists today. Without these unique and passionate people, we may not have even half of what Portland offers to residents and guests alike. Expect flavors and fusions that tell not only a culinary, but also a cultural, tale. Bikes, helmets and plentiful food samples provided.

We keep groups small, so you'll have an intimate experience with your passionate guides!

What To Expect
1
Ladd's Addition
In the Ladd's Addition neighborhood is the heart of the original food cart scene and we'll set the scene by trying some of our favorite coffee and discussing our route for the day.
2
Hawthorne
Hawthorne Boulevard is part of our hometown story: the heart of all that's delicious, funky, and hippie, a thoroughfare with a street food soul! We'll ride into our personal and the city's foodie history (this goes back over a century!) and stop at a special coffee food cart made in a unique vehicle. Here we'll get some caffeinated beverage (if that's what you like) to begin our day!

Bicycling allows you to see a lot more of Portland than you can on foot. Our hosts were conscientious about making sure the bikes fit each of the participants. There was only one really bad hill, so if you are like me--an only occasional bicyclist who lives in a pretty flat community--you too can do this! Dustin was a great host and took us to a wide variety of places. All of the food was superb. As a tourist, these probably wouldn't be places you would go to otherwise. Having a local person give you a tour, allows you to ask lots of questions about the city and the food. You also get to meet others on the tour and hear about their communities. I highly recommend.

We highly recommend this tour! Dustin our tour guide was terrific. He took us biking through some beautiful neighborhoods and we ate some delicious food. We only wish we had taken this tour the beginning of our trip versus the end because Dustin helped us understand Portland and it’s layout and regions. This would have been so helpful in the beginning of our trip. We went to some great food truck pods which we would never have found on our own. We would have loved to return to them if we were staying. Fun tour!

Thanks so much for your insightful review! We agree, a bike tour -- especially a food cart bike tour -- is so great to help you know what the best things are to eat, see and do throughout your time here! Please come back and see us :)
