Food Carts of Portland Bike Tour: local flavors and stories

Overview
Portland’s famous food carts are scattered all over the city's five (now six) quadrants, over 600 in total, in over 60 pods — collections of food carts! Starting at our shop, 833 SE Main Street #121, we'll put you on one of our lightweight bicycles and guide you on a 8-12 mile (11-17 km) culinary experience through some of our best-loved chefs and makers, sampling everything from Oregon farm-to-table delights to snacks appropriate to late-night cravings.

Our focus is on locally-owned businesses with a great story; we’ll take you to a few of our favorites, many of which were important in creating the food cart scene as it exists today. Without these unique and passionate people, we may not have even half of what Portland offers to residents and guests alike. Expect flavors and fusions that tell not only a culinary, but also a cultural, tale. Bikes, helmets and plentiful food samples provided.

We keep groups small, so you'll have an intimate experience with your passionate guides!

What To Expect
1
Ladd's Addition
In the Ladd's Addition neighborhood is the heart of the original food cart scene and we'll set the scene by trying some of our favorite coffee and discussing our route for the day.
2
Hawthorne
Hawthorne Boulevard is part of our hometown story: the heart of all that's delicious, funky, and hippie, a thoroughfare with a street food soul! We'll ride into our personal and the city's foodie history (this goes back over a century!) and stop at a special coffee food cart made in a unique vehicle. Here we'll get some caffeinated beverage (if that's what you like) to begin our day!

We started our tour on a rainy Saturday in May. Having not been this side of Portland we were worried about the roads and road safety for cyclists. Anna, our guide reassured us immediately that the roads were cycle friendly and take precedence over cars. The 3 1/2 hour tour was incredible and stopping at one coffee shop and three food trucks we got to know the east side of Portland suburbs. The food was fabulous and varied. Above all Anna was incredibly professional very knowledgeable and great fun to be with. If you are only going to do one tour in Portland I strongly recommend Portland food and cycle tour. As a novice cyclist the bikes were very easy to ride, comfortable and above all I felt very safe. Big thanks to Anna for such an enjoyable day.

Dustin was a great guide. Very energetic and easy to get along with. The groups are small. There were only 2 of us, but that may be because it's early May and we took the morning tour. You go to 3 food trucks and 1 bonus truck if there's time. The biking was fine for me, a bit tiring for my girlfriend, but overall extremely manageable. The pork belly and vegan breakfast sandwiches were excellent. The Hawaiian/korean fusion was decisively average. The ice cream shop was fantastic. It would be nice to have a few more stops and a bit less food per stop. We both ended up quite full after the tour. But there are so many food trucks in Portland, having 3 trucks in 3 hours seems a bit sparsely spaced. Overall, this was very very good. Would recommend 100%.
