We walked up and bought tickets a few minutes before departure. Nice trip out, guide did a good job with the history of the fort. An hour at the fort is more than enough time to see everything.

This is a very important historical site and a must see! The site itself is awesome and so much history! You can walk all around the grounds of the fort and there is a museum with tons of info and displays. I would give the fort itself 5 stars! But as for the tour, I only gave 3. It is half an hour from the time you load the ferry and get safety info. There is a guide who gives you the history of the fort and the area on the ride out there. Then you have one hour to listen to a ranger tell about the battle (about 15 minutes, very informative) and to walk around the grounds AND get thru the museum, then it’s time to head back to the ferry. This is in no way enough time to take it all in! We mentioned this to one of the park rangers and were told that is a major complaint they hear all the time but they are under contract with this tour operator and have no control over the time frame you are given. That’s unfortunate! So, is this a must do tour? Yes absolutely! Just know you will be rushed thru and not given near enough time to get thru everything there is to see and read!
