Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
In 1889 Wright completed the construction of a small two-story residence in Oak Park on the Western edges of Chicago. The building was the first over which Wright exerted complete artistic control. Designed as a home for his family, the Oak Park residence was a site of experimentation for the young architect during the twenty-year period he lived there. Wright revised the design of the building multiple times, continually refining ideas that would shape his work for decades to come.

We were glad that this was included in our City Pass, because we really wanted to visit it. My parents had already been here many years ago, but for me and my sister it was our first visit. We both like architecture, so we found it really interesting. Here are a few of my observations. - The House & Studio are an impressive location. Unique and very well preserved. - The tour guides, which were volunteers, were extremely kind, charismatic, well-informed and patient. Unfortunately, I don’t remember our guide’s name, but he was key to making our visit memorable. He made sure we all felt welcome and listened to. We had a couple of Japanese tourists in our tour, and he even spoke a bit of Japanese to them! - The shop has amazing (though a bit pricey) souvenirs. - It is a bit far away from the City Downtown, but it’s easy to get here by train or bus. Plus, the house is located in a nice neighborhood. - The tour takes about an hour. And, after you finish, don’t forget to check out the rest of the FLW houses nearby (you can only see them from the outside and from afar, but it’s worth it). In general, this was a great experience and I highly suggest visiting!

A must to visit this house if you are interested in building design. Both the house and walking tour are worth doing

A great experience seeing all the unique designs in the home. Very interesting learning the history of both the home, Frank and the entire family.
