What To Expect

Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio

In 1889 Wright completed the construction of a small two-story residence in Oak Park on the Western edges of Chicago. The building was the first over which Wright exerted complete artistic control. Designed as a home for his family, the Oak Park residence was a site of experimentation for the young architect during the twenty-year period he lived there. Wright revised the design of the building multiple times, continually refining ideas that would shape his work for decades to come.

The experience was great. Mary was a wonderful guide, she is very knowledgeable and she has a lot of passion for Wright design We enjoyed our time and learned a lot

Street parking available in the immediate walking area. $20 for the guided tour of home and studio for purchase in the gift shop. The tour docent was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Pictures can be taken throughout the property.

My friends and I enjoy visiting historic homes and neighborhoods. Our tour yesterday was informative and gave us insight into FLW, although all of us had read about Mr. Wright before our tour. Our guide, Marlou, was excellent and was able to answer all of our questions. After touring the home and studio, we did the neighborhood walking tour. We also enjoyed this tour We walked and drove through several areas of Oak Park and were awed by the large number of beautiful homes. We had lunch and then toured the Hemingway birthplace. We were lucky to have a beautiful day!
