Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio

In 1889 Wright completed the construction of a small two-story residence in Oak Park on the Western edges of Chicago. The building was the first over which Wright exerted complete artistic control. Designed as a home for his family, the Oak Park residence was a site of experimentation for the young architect during the twenty-year period he lived there. Wright revised the design of the building multiple times, continually refining ideas that would shape his work for decades to come.

This is a really interesting tour because you can see it the way that the house is let in the early 1900s. There is a very interesting and informed tour guide, who explains a lot of history of Mr. Wright. If you walk through the neighborhood, you can see other beautiful architecture done by frank Loyd Wright. I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to do this tour.

This is an opportunity to see Wright's first home and studio (from 1889-1909). The historic district surrounding his home and studio has the greatest number of Wright-designed homes anywhere in the world. That being said, I would recommend doing the Inside and Out tour which costs $30/adult. Self-guided audio neighborhood tour consists of 10 different homes. Tours run from 10 AM through 4 PM. Free parking on the streets around the home. We arrived early and did neighborhood tour in less than 1 hour.
