Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
In 1889 Wright completed the construction of a small two-story residence in Oak Park on the Western edges of Chicago. The building was the first over which Wright exerted complete artistic control. Designed as a home for his family, the Oak Park residence was a site of experimentation for the young architect during the twenty-year period he lived there. Wright revised the design of the building multiple times, continually refining ideas that would shape his work for decades to come.

It was wonderful to see in person what I had heard about for many years, and our tour guides were extremely knowledgeable about their subject matter. And the lunch was very good, too.

Lived in Chicago for 20 years and never visited any of FLW’s works. It was so cool to see the home he designed for his family and his studio. Our tour guide, Michael, was so informative and could tell us anything we wanted to know about the room. He was a great tour guide and so friendly. The home tour was great but there’s also an audio walking tour that’s amazing as well. It was cool to see FLW commissioned houses around the neighborhood still standing today! Even if you aren’t particularly into architecture, this is a great tour for some history buffs too!
