Boston's principal role in launching the American Revolution is linked by the brick-lined Freedom Trail. This world-famous pedestrian path is best experienced on foot, in a small group, with a knowledgeable local guide! This 2.5-hour tour travels the trail from Boston Common to Copp's Hill Terrace, providing guests a chance to see ALL SIXTEEN official landmarks on the Freedom Trail.

Our small-group walking tour delves deeply into the years 1760 to 1776, the tumultuous years leading into the American Revolution. We walk in the footsteps of Colonial Bostonians, all of whom grappled with the difficult—yet essential—question of loyalty or rebellion to crown and country.

Our tour guide (Matthew) was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Boston. He took us places on the tour where I never would have thought to go. I thought that was an added bonus as I researched a bunch of the touristy spots and “little Italy” was not listed but was part of the tour. It was a place like no other and I am so glad my family and I had that experience. This walking tour was embedded with facts and locations but did not enter any of the museums, buildings or structures where you could see artifacts from the time. It would have added time on to the tour but made it a little more enriching. It was the perfect experience for anyone wanting a comprehensive history lesson of the events leading up to the American Revolution. I would highly recommend this tour!.

Thank you for this fantastic recommendation of Matthew's tour, Joanna! He is a truly talented guide to the Freedom Trail and guests frequently mention how enthusiastic Matthew is about Boston's rich history. Aside from public spaces and burying grounds, you are correct in noting that our walking tour does not enter any Freedom Trail buildings. While we would love to offer this in addition to the outdoor stroll, many of the sites along the trail are private museums. As such, they have their own interpretative staff inside, and we would be stepping on toes by leading tours inside their museums! We always encourage guests to return to the museums after the tour if they're interested in seeing even more history.
