This is our second tour with the Friends of the Cabildo - if you are looking for real history from local, highly informed guides - this is the one! As an extra you get a ticket to visit the '1850 House' which I also recommend. To get this to 5*, I would like to have seen more of the Quarter away from Jackson Square, Royal etc into the quieter and - more genuine - streets around Ursulines and St Philip.

Experienced volunteers share their knowledge of the history and architecture of the French Quarter on this excellent walking tour. Tour guide Jeanne Wilson gave us a great tour, crammed with historical detail and observations on the architecture of the buildings and the culture of the city. Great value for 20 dollars.

Volunteer Donald Midkitt spent two hours taking 4 visitors on a 2 hour walk through the French Quarter and through history. We learned about the various nationalities who built the current New Orleans. Architecture, building techniques, historical politics, and a whole lot more were covered. There was a very reasonable charge of $20 per adult, which included a ticket to the Louisiana State Museum. These tours are given at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM Tuesday through Sunday. I had not realized that Italian and Irish immigrants played such a big role in New Orleans. I would highly recommend this tour, but it probably wouldn't interest younger children.
