Overview

Enjoy this 2-hour guided adventure in a high-speed catamaran to watch the whales in their natural habitat. Depending on the whales’ behavior during your whale watching trip, you may see the whales slapping the surface with pectoral fins (their very long side fins), flukes (the tail), the peduncle (the strong muscles attaching the tail to the rest of the body) and the breach, this is when the whale rises completely out of the water and crashes down again. Juices and sodas are available on board.

I booked the Malolo a high speed catamaran as described and pictured when I booked the tour, but when we arrived we were told to board a different boat, a larger passenger double decker boat. The crew was very nice and the whale watching was great but the experience was not what was described. There were a few other groups with us that booked the Malolo. Don’t promise what you can’t deliver. I never received an email after the booking if the boat and location changed. Very disappointed. This was our last night on Maui.

Switched from a smaller boat to a much larger more crowded boat. The whole trip changed!!! Had booked a trip on a smaller boat for a more personalized experience, and drove 40 min each way from our resort for this. The crew was nice, but it was not what we had booked and expected. I would encourage readers to avoid this and go with something else.

These decisions are rarely, if ever, are made before the vessel leaves the harbor, but are instead made when the captain leaves the harbor and can better judge the currents and swell. We still provide the same trip length and amenities, albeit at a different site.
